Liebherr Monolith Refrigerators PH001 Error: Communication Error Between Control Boards

What Does Liebherr Monolith PH001 Mean? The PH001 fault code on a Liebherr Monolith column indicates a communication failure between control boards. Modern Monolith columns use multiple boards: a main column control board that handles cooling logic, a user interface board that drives the InfoLight display and accepts touch input, and a BluPerformance inverter board […]

Quick Assessment

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

No. Communication failures may or may not stop cooling. Until the fault is diagnosed, treat the column as unreliable and triage perishables to a working column or backup.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. A 5-minute breaker reset occasionally clears a soft-failed communication channel, but persistent PH001 is a hardware fault on a board or harness.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: PH001 returns immediately after the breaker reset, Cooling has stopped (compressor silent, cabinet warming).

Symptoms You May Notice

InfoLight display blank, scrambled, or stuck on a single value

The user interface cannot communicate with the column control board, so it shows nothing useful. Touch buttons either do not respond or do not produce expected results.

Compressor for the affected column may stop running

If the communication failure is between the main board and the inverter (rather than the user interface), the compressor cannot receive speed commands and stops cooling.

PH001 alphanumeric in the SmartDeviceBox app even when the column display is dark

The SmartDevice cloud connection uses a separate data path that often survives PH001, so app notifications still arrive even when the physical InfoLight is non-functional.

Other Monolith columns continue to operate normally

Each Monolith column has its own boards and its own communication paths. PH001 affects only the column reporting it.

Possible Causes

1

Ribbon cable or wiring harness between boards loose or damaged

The flat ribbon cable or data harness connecting the column control board to the user interface (or to the BluPerformance inverter) has worked loose at one end or has chafed through.

2

User interface board failure

The display board itself has failed and is no longer able to participate in the communication exchange.

Requires Professional
3

Main column control board communication driver failure

The communication output on the main board has failed, leaving connected boards alive but unable to receive data.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Check whether cooling is still running

Open the affected column and feel the air. If it is still cold and the compressor is audible from the kickplate area, the PH001 fault is on the user interface side and the column is still operational. If cooling has stopped, treat this as a stop-and-call-service event and triage food.

Use the SmartDeviceBox app to verify cabinet temperature trend even when the InfoLight display is dark.

  2. 2

Power-cycle the affected column at the breaker

Switch off the breaker for the affected column for 5 minutes, then restore power. The longer power-off period gives all board capacitors time to drain completely, which sometimes clears a soft-failed communication channel.

Wait the full BluPerformance restart delay (about 4 minutes) after restoring power. Restart the SmartDeviceBox app after the column has restarted so the app re-syncs.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • PH001 appeared after a thunderstorm or known surge event
  • Multiple columns reporting PH001 simultaneously
  • Monolith installation more than 8 years old
