Liebherr Wine Fridges E2 Error: Secondary Zone Air Temperature Sensor Fault
What Does Liebherr Wine Fridge E2 Mean? The E2 fault code on a Liebherr multi-zone freestanding wine fridge indicates a fault in the secondary zone air temperature sensor. Multi-zone Liebherr wine fridges (such as the Vinidor series) use independent sensors for the upper and lower temperature zones so each zone can be set to a […]
Quick Assessment
Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
Maybe. The unaffected zone continues to regulate normally. The affected zone has lost independent control. Move sensitive wines to the working zone or backup storage.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. A power cycle clears transient connector faults. Hardware-level E2 needs sensor or harness replacement.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: E2 returns immediately on every power cycle, Affected zone temperature exceeds 65°F or drops below 38°F.
Symptoms You May Notice
One temperature zone shows the wrong value or a flashing display
A two-zone Liebherr wine fridge shows two temperatures on the display. With E2 active, one zone shows the correct value while the other shows dashes, a frozen reading, or alternates between E2 and a value.
Wines in the affected zone are at the wrong serving temperature
A red zone target of 55°F drifts toward the white zone target of 45°F or vice versa. Bottles in the affected zone are not at their intended temperature when you reach for them.
E2 alphanumeric on the InfoLight display
The fault label cycles in the affected zone's display field; the SmartDeviceBox app sends a zone-specific notification.
Compressor cycles differently than usual
Loss of one zone's sensor changes how the BluPerformance inverter manages cooling demand — you may hear longer or shorter compressor cycles than the wine fridge normally produces.
Possible Causes
Secondary zone NTC sensor element open or short
The thermistor in the secondary zone sensor probe has failed after years of operation in that zone's climate.
Requires ProfessionalSecondary zone sensor harness disconnected
The sensor connector for the affected zone has worked loose during a service visit or after the unit was physically moved.
Requires ProfessionalDamaged sensor harness behind the zone divider
A wire in the secondary zone harness has chafed against the divider sheet metal somewhere along its run.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Move bottles from the affected zone to the working zone
Identify which zone is reporting E2 and move the most temperature-sensitive bottles from that zone to the working zone. The working zone may not be ideal but it is more stable than the affected one.
White wines tolerate slight warming better than reds tolerate slight cooling — choose accordingly.

2
Power-cycle the wine fridge at the wall outlet
Switch off at the wall outlet for 60 seconds and restore power. Wait the BluPerformance restart delay before judging the result. Use a separate thermometer in the affected zone to verify temperature stability over several hours.
A successful clear is not a guarantee — monitor for the next several hours.
When to Call a Professional
